Revealed: the Pact Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales Made During a Secret Trip to the Seychelles.
In August 2007, after a brief breakup, Prince William and Kate Middleton took a private holiday to Desroches Island in the Seychelles, checking in under the pseudonyms Martin and Rosemary Middleton to avoid media attention. During this trip, they made a significant pact regarding their future together. According to royal biographer Katie Nicholl in her book The Making of a Royal Romance, the couple discussed marriage seriously for the first time. William, aware of Kate’s need for commitment and his own hesitations about marriage due to a fear of commitment inherited from his father, assured Kate she was “the one” but stated he was not yet ready to marry. They agreed on a pact: William promised his long-term commitment and vowed not to let her down, while Kate agreed to wait for him until he was ready. This agreement was not an engagement but a mutual understanding to take the pressure off their relationship while committing to a future together. The pact laid the foundation for their eventual engagement in 2010 and marriage in 2011.
