Kate Middleton Debuts New Statement Earrings and Epitomizes Country Chic While on Summer Break.
The Princess of Wales looked stunning while visiting Balmoral with the royal family.
As she continues to enjoy her summer vacation, Kate Middleton looked radiant as she joined other members of the royal family for a church service at Crathie Kirk wearing a new pair of chandelier statement earrings.
On August 23, the Princess of Wales rode shotgun in a car driven by her husband, Prince William, with their children in the back. The Wales family of five has been at Balmoral, the family's traditional end-of-summer retreat, since August 20.
Each year, throughout the month of August, we typically don't get many sightings of the future queen as she takes a deserved break. On Sunday, Kate's brunette hair appeared to be sunkissed and blonder, and she debuted a new pair of stone chandelier earrings, which Tatler reported are from Ralph Lauren—a new favorite brand of the Princess of Wales. As Tatler pointed out, Kate's earrings are from a previous season, so they might have been in her jewelry box for some time but only worn in public for the first time on Sunday.
As photos were only taken of the princess riding in the car, it wasn't possible to see the full scope of her outfit. The earrings stood out, as did a white high-neck blouse by country chic outfitter Jade Holland Cooper. Layered over the blouse was a tweed blazer, which The Daily Mail reported is also from Ralph Lauren. Atop Kate's head was a favorite chocolate brown hat by Lock & Co., and peachy blush, black winged eyeliner, and soft pink lip gloss cemented her look.
Notably, Sunday was the first time the Prince and Princess of Wales have been seen publicly since the August 19 announcement that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are moving back to the U.K. imminently. Their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are set to begin school in Harry's home country in September.
William and Kate have not made any public comment about Harry and Meghan's move—and likely won't. Hello!'s royal editor Emily Nash said on a recent episode of the outlet's "A Right Royal Podcast" that the Prince and Princess of Wales are likely "not delighted" about the news.
"Well, what is intriguing about this is the complete radio silence coming from that end of the spectrum," she said. She added, "It's going to be a very, very difficult hill to climb, having them suddenly back in the U.K., popping up, doing things publicly, if that's where they do with this. So much has been said and done that has damaged that relationship, almost beyond repair."
Nash added that William and Kate were likely briefed about Harry and Meghan's decision before it was announced last Wednesday. King Charles is said to have been the first to find out about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's plans, and was told on August 16.
Of William and Kate, Nash continued, "I can't see a world in which they would be welcoming them back with open arms. But you would anticipate that the king will have spoken to William about this if he was made aware." She noted, "We believe the Waleses were made aware beforehand. They didn't find out at the same time as the rest of the world. So they've had time to process this."
A source speaking to Vanity Fair said that the Prince and Princess of Wales were "very concerned" about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's return, noting that William "is very concerned that Harry and Meghan will want to try and implement the 'half in, half out' model Queen Elizabeth vetoed at the Sandringham Summit [in 2020]."
"They are wary about the whole move back to Britain," a source said. "Charles is happy to see Harry come home, but for William, the breakdown of trust is a key issue."
That said, an insider speaking to People said that Harry's return presents the "best opportunity" for a potential William and Harry reconciliation, noting, "It would never happen with him [Harry] in America. This gives them opportunity to try and mend that bridge."
The brothers aren't thought to have spoken since their grandmother Queen Elizabeth's funeral in September 2022—nearly four years ago. Kate, People's source added, might be of aid in their reunion.
"Catherine may step into that breach and try to help, too, because she knows how important family is and how important Harry is to William," the insider said. "She would want to see that healed, as any wife would."
The king, the source added, "will want to see his sons together over time. This is the best opportunity we have seen in recent years."
