The Princess of Wales reunited with participants of the Three Peaks Challenge, which she completed earlier this year.

Kate Middleton stepped into the role of hostess with an unexpected tea party. In photos shared by the Prince and Princess of Wales on September 25, the future queen welcomed a few of the people who previously completed the Three Peaks Challenge—which Kate herself accomplished earlier this year. At the party, she reportedly treated her guests to tea and lemon cake in Windsor Castle, per Hello!.

“It was a pleasure to welcome other Three Peaks Challenge participants and their families to Windsor Castle,” she wrote alongside a video of the event that saw her wearing a belted plum mididress with a full skirt and long sleeves. “Behind every summit was a personal story of resilience, determination and hope. Listening to their experiences of the challenge and their reasons for taking it on was a powerful reminder that recovery is rarely a journey we make alone, and of the importance of the people who walk alongside us along the way. C.”

Some of Kate’s guests included the 11-year-old paraplegic Ted Haslam, who was carried by family and friends during the trek, 9-year-old Albie-Junior, who is the youngest amputee to complete the challenge, and Sean McCormick, who hiked to raise money for a friend’s nephew with cancer, per Daily Mail.

Kate took on the Three Peaks Challenge in June in Scotland. The difficult hike saw her hiking 23 miles (and scaling 10,052 feet) in just 24 hours. The trek helped raise money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, linked to the London hospital where she herself previously received cancer treatment. She wore short shorts, hiking boots, and a cap for the hike. Upon reaching the finish line, she was met by her family and was even pictured sharing a rare hug with husband Prince William.

At the time, Kate’s brother James Middleton celebrated his sister’s achievement. “Two years ago, I told you we’d climb this mountain together,” he wrote on Instagram. “We talked about climbing mountains while you were in hospital, and about the incredible healing power that nature can have for both the body and the mind.”

He continued, “So it was such an honour to join you for your Three Peaks Challenge for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity,” before adding, “Seeing how far you’ve come is nothing short of inspiring. Your strength, resilience, and determination, all while being the most amazing mother, wife, daughter, and sister, inspire me and so many others every single day. Keep being exactly who you are.

The Inspiration: During the summer, Kate completed the grueling Three Peaks Challenge—scaling the tallest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike), and Wales (Yr Wyddfa/Snowdon) within 24 hours. She took on the trek to explore life in remission following her cancer recovery and to raise funds for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, supporting their new Centre for Holistic Wellbeing and Recovery.

The Windsor Castle Gathering: To celebrate the perseverance of others who tackled the endurance test, Kate invited nine participants and their families many of whom she crossed paths with along the trail to Windsor Castle for tea and cake.

Inspiring Guests: Among the attendees were 11-year-old Ted Haslam, who completed the challenge in a wheelchair pushed and carried by his father and a team of 15 to raise money for children's charity Molly Ollys; 9-year-old amputee Albie-Junior, who completed the trek to fundraise for his local football club; and Shaun McCormick, who took on the peaks to support a friend's nephew diagnosed with cancer.

A Message on Shared Recovery: Accompanying a video of the gathering, Kate shared a personal message: "Listening to their experiences of the challenge and their reasons for taking it on was a powerful reminder that recovery is rarely a journey we make alone, and of the importance of the people who walk alongside us along the way."
