The Princess of Wales chose a houndstooth blazer and penny loafers for an engagement in Essex.

Kate Middleton swapped her red carpet gown and historic royal jewels for her more classic day-to-day staples during an engagement to Southend-On-Sea, Essex today.

For a visit to Forward Trust as she marks this year’s Addiction Awareness Week, the Princess of Wales chose a houndstooth MaxMara blazer, chocolate Joseph Coleman trousers, and Boden penny loafers. The brown shades and checked pattern made her go-to outfit of blazer and trousers perfect for cooling temperatures.

Her loafers, a regular of her wardrobe, are out of stock in her “oxblood” colorway, but still available in a variety of other shades.

The Princess of Wales also stuck to jewelry staples, choosing her Cartier Trinity earrings and a necklace from Laura Lombardi, both frequently worn pieces, and her ring stack which features Kate’s famous 12-carat sapphire engagement ring and a diamond-and-sapphire eternity band.

Today’s engagement with Forward Trust is a cause that Kate has long advocated for. “Addiction is not a choice,” she said when she became patron of the organization in 2021. “No one chooses to become an addict. But it can happen to any one of us. None of us are immune. It is all too rarely discussed as a serious mental health condition and seldom do we take the time to uncover and fully understand its fundamental root causes.”

She added, “The journey towards addiction is often multi-layered and complex. But, by recognizing what lies beneath addiction, we can help remove the taboo and shame that sadly surrounds it. As a society, we need to start from a position of compassion and empathy. Where we nurture those around us, understand their journey, and what has come before them.”
