Kate Middleton's cheeky 6-word question to Prince William during daring outing.
The Princess of Wales rarely breaks her composure in public while carrying out royal duties, but she's been known to engage in light-hearted banter with her husband from time to time.
Kate's playful side was on full display during a daring engagement in Wales when she asked her husband, Prince William, one cheeky question. On 20 November 2015, the royal couple showed off their athleticism while abseiling on a visit to Towers Residential Outdoor Education Centre in Capel Curig.
When it was William's turn to descend down the cliffside, his wife was behind the ropes.
"William, how much do you love me?" Kate reportedly asked her husband. "I'm quite enjoying this actually. For once I'm in control," she added, holding on to William's support ropes.
Light-hearted moments
During their engagement interview, William divulged that his partner's humour is quite different to his own.
"She's got a really naughty sense of humour, which kind of helps me because I've got a really dry sense of humour," he said.
Since tying the knot in 2011, the couple have shared many fun moments and giggles in public together. Most recently, William jokingly hurried his wife along while they met with locals on their trip to the Isle of Bute in Scotland on 17 September.
In a video of the couple on a royal walkabout, which was shared by Kings Guard Tours, William told Kate, while tapping on his watch: "You've got to speed up, you've got to get all the way down there before you go."
William 'visibly relaxes' with Kate.
William has been undertaking solo engagements his whole adult life, but when his wife Kate is nearby, the royal "visibly relaxes", Simon Vigar, author of The Four Wives of Windsor, told HELLO!.
"William is very happy for Catherine to take the spotlight in a way that back in the day Charles wasn't with Diana, of course, but he is now with Camilla. They are clearly a double act," he added.
"It's very hard to do that job on your own, and I think we'll see an even stronger double act when the time comes, when William becomes king. She's obviously very, very important to him personally and publicly."
The Daring Outing.
While visiting the Towers Residential Outdoor Education Centre in Capel Curig, Snowdonia, the royal couple strapped into climbing gear and helmets to try their hand at abseiling down a 12-meter (40-foot) rock face.
Kate went first, and after reaching the bottom, she climbed back up to take charge of the belay rope to secure William during his descent.
The Cheeky Six-Word Quip.
As William nervously stepped backward over the edge, he called out to make sure she had a firm grip on the safety line:
William: "Are you holding me?"
Kate: "I've got you. I'm rather enjoying this, actually—for once, I'm in control."
As William lowered himself down the rock wall with his safety rope in her hands, Kate grinned and shouted down the cheeky six-word question:
"William, how much do you love me?"
The playful banter drew laughter from the climbing instructors and onlookers, with the lead instructor later remarking that it was likely the first time Kate held the life of the future King—and her husband—directly in her hands. The moment is frequently revisited by royal commentators as one of the couple's most memorable, competitive, and lighthearted public exchanges.
