The Princess of Wales(Kate Middleton) Rewears Her Wedding Earrings for Her 10th Garter Day Appearance.
The Princess of Wales looked lovely in gold to celebrate the Order of the Garter.
Kate Middleton and the British royal family gathered in Windsor today to celebrate the Order of the Garter, for an event called Garter Day. The Princess of Wales, though not a member of the Order, was in attendance in Windsor today to watch the procession. King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, Prince Edward, Princess Anne, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester are all members of the Order of the Garter, the “oldest and most senior Order of Chivalry in Britain,” which was established by King Edward III almost 700 years ago.
For the occasion, she wore a gold coat dress and accessorized with a wide-brimmed hat. She watched the procession alongside Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, who also is not a member of the Order but a regular attendee on the festive day. Kate also chose her custom Robinson Pelham wedding earrings, a gift from her parents Carole and Michael Middleton. An official press release from the royal wedding described the pair as a “diamond-set stylized oak leaves with a pear shaped diamond set drop and a pave set diamond acorn suspended in the center.” The oak leaves and acorns are both symbols used in the Middletons’ coat of arms, which was granted to them before the wedding.
Today marks the Princess of Wales’s tenth time attending Garter Day; she first was at the event way back in 2008, before she was even a member of the royal family. That year, Queen Elizabeth appointed Prince William to the Order of the Garter, and William became the 1,000th Knight in the Register—a notable honor. Her fashion has remained consistent over the years, favoring dresses and matching hats, though in recent appearances she has favored longer hemlines versus the knee-length outfits she wore in her earlier years as a royal.
It's always a big moment for royal fashion watchers when Kate Middleton reaches for pieces with deep personal significance. Her attendance at the annual Garter Day service at Windsor Castle—marking her milestone 10th appearance at the historic event—was no exception.
While the Order of the Garter is steeped in nearly 700 years of historic tradition, it was Kate's choice of jewelry that stole the spotlight for fashion enthusiasts. She stunningly chose to rewear her custom Robinson Pelham wedding earrings, the very same pair given to her by her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, for her 2011 wedding to Prince William.
The Meaning Behind the Jewels.
The earrings aren't just beautifully crafted; they are packed with symbolic nods to Kate’s own heritage as she stepped into her royal role:
Family Heritage: The design features diamond-set stylized oak leaves with a pear-shaped diamond drop and a pavé-set diamond acorn suspended in the center. Both the oak leaves and acorns are prominent symbols taken directly from the Middleton family coat of arms.
A Royal Echo: The delicate scrollwork of the earrings was specifically commissioned to echo the wave-like contours of the 1936 Cartier Halo Tiara, which was lent to Kate by Queen Elizabeth II for her wedding day.
A Look Back at Garter Day Style.
First attending all the way back in 2008 before she was even officially part of the royal family (to watch Prince William be appointed as the 1,000th Knight of the Garter), Kate's style for the event has evolved into a masterclass in formal daywear.
For this milestone appearance, she paired the sentimental heirloom earrings with a beautifully tailored gold coat dress and a matching wide-brimmed hat, watching the spectacular processional alongside Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh.
By pulling from her personal collection rather than the historic royal vaults, the Princess of Wales brought a touch of her own family history to one of the monarchy's oldest and most traditional ceremonies.
