Kensington Palace also shared a video of Kate and Charlotte on social media handles.
Commenting on the mother and daughter’s hidden skills, Scottish composer Erland Cooper was surprised.
The Standard UK, quoted Erland Cooper, as saying Kate and Charlotte needed no direction for their piano duet and they were already “so good.”
The composer of the piece of music said it was “such a surprise” to discover the Princesses would be performing his piece Holm Sound and to be invited to Windsor Castle for the filming of the segment.
He told BBC Breakfast: “I’d had a chat with the princess earlier in the year and I knew she enjoyed playing this piece of music with family.
“It was a big surprise to be invited to Windsor Castle just last week and hear it performed by a pair of princesses.”
The composer added, “I didn’t need to give direction, they were so good.”
Erland Cooper described Princess Charlotte as “very confident”, and added “She played it really well. She plays it so beautifully.”
He further said, “Performing in front of a film crew and the person who wrote the music is a nerve-wracking thing for anybody, I’m sure.”
Scottish composer Erland Cooper has spoken out following the surprise piano duet performed by the Princess of Wales (Kate Middleton) and her 10-year-old daughter, Princess Charlotte, during the broadcast of the “Together at Christmas” carol service on Christmas Eve 2025.
The mother-daughter pair played Cooper’s piece “Holm Sound”, a composition inspired by nature, connection, and motherhood—originally written for his own mother, also named Charlotte. The performance was pre-recorded at Windsor Castle’s Inner Hall, with Kate using her left hand and Charlotte her right. It opened the ITV broadcast of the service, which had been held live at Westminster Abbey earlier in December.
Cooper, invited to Windsor Castle for the filming, described the experience as a “big surprise” and a “wonderful bit of serendipity.” He praised the royals’ skill, noting they needed no direction as they were already “so good.” He called Princess Charlotte “very confident,” saying she “played it really well” and “so beautifully,” despite the nerve-wracking setting with a film crew and the composer present.
He highlighted their “incredible bond,” adding that witnessing the performance felt deeply meaningful given the piece’s themes of family and motherhood. Sources like BBC, Daily Mail, and The Standard reported these comments, with Cooper expressing gratitude for the honor. The duet delighted viewers and underscored the service’s focus on love and togetherness.
