Catherine Princess of Wales new home decision brings her closer to senior Royal.
Princess Kate's Move to Forest Lodge Will Bring Her Closer Than Ever to Royal Relative Who Reduces Her to a "Shriek of Giggles".
"They have constantly been two middle-class women combating their way thru the Royal Family."
Princess Kate is set to pass to Forest Lodge in Windsor with Prince William and their three children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. As nicely as giving the household greater space, the go will interestingly deliver Kate Middleton nearer to a royal relative with whom she's especially close.
Royal biographer Sean Smith spoke to GB News about the Princess of Wales's new home, and what it supposed for her friendship with her "royal sister," Duchess Sophie. "They stay the high-quality of friends," Smith explained. "They have usually been two middle-class female from the united states of america scuffling with their way via the etiquette and traditions of the Royal Family."
Smith continued, "They do no longer stay in every other's pockets. Kate has three younger teens to occupy her attention, however [their] new home, Forest Lodge, is little greater than a 10-minute force from Bagshot Park, so Sophie is close to to assist and help when she can."
Elaborating on why Princess Kate and Duchess Sophie are so close, Smith instructed the outlet, "We first grew to become excellent conscious of their friendship when they traveled collectively down the path at Royal Ascot in June 2017 in an open-topped carriage." He continued, "Sophie was once trying to alternate locations when she fell on pinnacle of Kate, decreasing each girls to a shriek of giggles it used to be a truely completely satisfied moment."
Smith continued, "She used to be there to assist Kate on the balcony of the Foreign Office in Whitehall in November 2024, a couple of months after the princess introduced she had completed chemotherapy treatment." According to Smith, "Sophie positioned a comforting hand on [Kate's] back—it was once a clearly memorable moment."
Once Princess Kate has moved to Forest Lodge, her proximity to Duchess Sophie will probable be highly positive.
Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, and her family are preparing to relocate from their current residence at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor Great Park to a larger property called Forest Lodge, also within Windsor Great Park. This move, confirmed by Kensington Palace and set to occur before Christmas 2025, is described by royal sources as a “fresh start” and their “forever home,” allowing them to leave behind difficult memories associated with Adelaide Cottage, including the death of Queen Elizabeth II shortly after their 2022 arrival there, and Kate’s cancer diagnosis and treatment in 2024. The eight-bedroom Georgian mansion, built in the 1770s and valued at up to £16 million today, offers more space than the four-bedroom Adelaide Cottage and is just four miles away, keeping the family close to their children’s school, Lambrook in Ascot.
This decision notably brings Kate physically closer to a senior royal: the Duchess of Edinburgh, Sophie, who is often regarded as Kate’s “best friend” within the royal family. Forest Lodge is only a 10-minute drive from the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh’s home at Bagshot Park, also in Surrey near Windsor. Royal author Sean Smith has highlighted the longstanding bond between the two women, describing them as “two middle-class girls from the country battling their way through the etiquette and traditions of the Royal Family.” Their friendship strengthened during Kate’s cancer battle, with Sophie providing visible support, such as a comforting gesture on Kate’s back during a November 2024 event at the Foreign Office. Smith noted that while Kate’s focus remains on her three children—Prince George, 12; Princess Charlotte, 10; and Prince Louis, 7—Sophie’s proximity will enable her to offer hands-on help when needed. The move also enhances family life overall, as it positions the Waleses nearer to Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, who live about 30 minutes away in Bucklebury and are actively involved in their grandchildren’s upbringing.
The relocation underscores a modern approach to royal living, with William and Kate funding renovations themselves from William’s Duchy of Cornwall income (around $30 million annually) and opting for no live-in staff to maintain a more private, “normal” environment. Security measures, including privacy screens and new shrubbery, are being implemented, and two nearby families have been relocated to other Crown Estate properties for safety reasons. This choice of Forest Lodge as a long-term base may even signal a break from tradition, as the couple reportedly plans to stay there even after William becomes king, potentially sidelining Buckingham Palace as the primary royal residence in favor of a more family-oriented setup.
