Catherine, Princess of Wales and William say enough: What just happened with Prince George.

Catherine, Princess of Wales and William say enough: What just happened with Prince George.
Recent reports indicate that Kate Middleton and Prince William have made a significant decision regarding their eldest son, Prince George, who is second in line to the British throne. After much discussion and some reported tension, they have decided to enroll him at Eton College, starting in September 2026, when he will be 13 years old. This choice follows in the footsteps of his father, Prince William, who attended Eton, though Kate initially favored Marlborough College, her own alma mater, as a potential option that could have included their daughter, Princess Charlotte, in the future.
The decision has sparked some controversy, with sources suggesting Kate was initially opposed to Eton, viewing it as a “stuffy, upper-crust institution” that might not align with their efforts to modernize the monarchy. Insiders claim she was particularly concerned about the emotional impact of sending George to a boarding school, given her strong focus on family and his well-being, especially after her cancer diagnosis and treatment in 2024. However, after visiting Eton and exploring its drama curriculum and extracurricular activities, the couple reportedly reached an agreement, with Eton emerging as the chosen school. There are also reports of a certain “smugness” from Eton staff about an upcoming announcement, suggesting confidence in the decision.
Additionally, there have been discussions about George’s future role, with speculation that he may not be required to serve in the armed forces, breaking from royal tradition, as William and Kate are unlikely to force him into a path he does not wish to pursue. This reflects their broader approach to balancing his preparation for royal duties with a relatively normal childhood.
This decision comes amidst Kate’s gradual return to public duties following her cancer remission, announced in January 2025, and the family’s recent public appearances, such as at Trooping the Colour on June 14, 2025, where George, alongside his siblings Charlotte and Louis, joined their parents. The choice of Eton for George underscores William and Kate’s ongoing efforts to prepare their children for their future roles while navigating personal and public challenges.
