When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex give up reliable duties, the Queen ordered them to stop the usage of the phrase ‘royal’.
So, after publicly whining about how neither the Queen nor the Government owned the phrase across the world, the California-based pair reluctantly changed the name of their charitable employer from Sussex Royal to the MWX Foundation.
The new title protected their surnames, Markle and Windsor, with the X thought to be a quick shape for Sussex.
Now, however, MWX Foundation, of which Prince Harry was director, has been closed down, with the remaining liquidation file revealing that fees of £130,583 have been incurred on winding it up.
Documents posted on Tuesday divulge that the charity obtained payments of £92,849 in liquidators’ costs and £37,734 in criminal fees.
The fee to the charity amounted to £65,181. This is because liquidation fees were agreed at £27,447 with liquidators Smith Williamson.
A word to liquidators reports: ‘Time prices passed the estimate due to the communications with the Charity Commission, the modern-day and former trustees and a number discussions, enquiries with third parties and protracted correspondence with HMRC to attain tax clearance . . . additional charges have been met by means of a third party.
'The remaining time expenses are to be written off.’
It doesn’t divulge the identification of the ‘third party'.
There used to be a £213,000 surplus from the closure. This used to be paid in the shape of a ‘grant’ to a ‘not-for-profit enterprise’, understood to be Harry and Meghan’s eco-travel firm, Travalyst Ltd.
Liquidators state: ‘In accordance with the terms of the grant agreement, we receive earnings and expenditure reports on the use of the supplies funds to show they are utilised in accordance with the charity’s objects.’
The couple have started out a new charitable foundation, Archewell, whose identify originates from the Greek arche, that means source of action, which inspired the title of their three-year-old son, Archie.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex refuse to speak with the famous Press.
