Kate Middleton Says She and Prince William Are a “Good Double Act” at Tackling This Unexpected Chore.
The Princess of Wales added that she and her husband even “get the children involved.”
Despite being the future king and queen and two of the most famous people in the world, after dinner, you’ll still catch Prince William and Kate Middleton doing the dishes together.
That’s according to the Princess of Wales herself, who said that she and her husband make a “good double act” in the kitchen—she “loves” to wash the dishes, while William does the drying (per The Times). She made the admission on September 30, while visiting a volunteer-run minibus operation in Pulborough, West Sussex, where she traveled with elderly companions to a community lunch club. The future queen noted that she wanted to take part in the midday meal with them “because I want to see what it’s all about.”
After Kate said, “I love washing up. I really do,” a guest at the lunch club joked, “Oh good, a volunteer!” The princess noted that she and William also “get the children involved” in household chores around their eight-bedroom mansion Forest Lodge, referring to Prince George, 13, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8.
Just as Kate apparently loves washing dishes, so too did the late Queen Elizabeth, who famously loved taking part in the chore while at Balmoral for her late summer holiday. Continuing her relatability streak on Wednesday, after being told that the future queen likely “never eat[s] crisps”—that’s potato chips for those in the U.S.—Kate countered the assertion, noting, “I do. I love salted.”
“Is this a good way to make friendships?” Kate asked the group. “You seem to have a really wonderful community here.” She added, “So many people feel isolated and cut off in their communities. It’s wonderful there are these places to come. You must all love coming together on your Wednesdays. A few crisps here and there!”
For her outing, Kate wore a wool coat by Jigsaw atop a gray silk tie-neck blouse from Reiss, the fashion site What Kate Wore reported. She paired the top with matching gray pants by Polo Ralph Lauren and carried a new Smythson handbag in calfskin leather. She accessorized with a dark burgundy Victoria Beckham belt, Gianvito Rossi heels, and gold and diamond hoops by jeweler Kiki McDonough, which she teamed with a pair of Annoushka pearl drop earrings.
“What Catherine brings is steadiness,” royal biographer Ingrid Seward told Hello! of the Princess of Wales. “She will be the linchpin that keeps the royal family together going forward. She keeps William together.”
Fellow royal biographer Simon Vigar told the outlet that the Prince of Wales “definitely visibly relaxes when Catherine is near,” calling William and Kate “clearly a double act.”
“It’s very hard to do that job on your own, and I think we’ll see an even stronger double act when the time comes, when William becomes king,” he added. “Catherine is obviously very, very important to him, personally and publicly.”
