6 Fashion Trends The Princess of Wales(Kate Middleton) Wears on Repeat to Wimbledon Each Year.
The Princess of Wales wore a pantsuit to Centre Court for the first time in 2026.
Kate Middleton has been a fixture in the Wimbledon stands ever since her marriage to Prince William back in 2011.
The Princess of Wales is the royal patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, which hosts the annual tournament. She has also been presenting the trophies to the winners of the men’s and ladies’ singles finals since 2019.
In 2024, Kate made an especially meaningful appearance at the tournament when she showed up at Centre Court amid her chemotherapy treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer. The royal chose a bright purple dress designed by Safiyaa for the occasion.
“Kate has a history of choosing clever, whimsical themes for her Wimbledon looks, and this was a new one,” Bethan Holt, Fashion Director at the Daily Telegraph, told PEOPLE at the time. “Wearing purple underlines how important that role is to her and why she chose this event to make her second public appearance of the year. It’s also the color of courage, which could be a nod to what she is going through.”
Take a look back at all of the fashion trends Kate Middleton has embraced at Wimbledon, from polka dots to her first-ever pantsuit.
1. Tennis Whites.
Kate made her Wimbledon debut shortly after her and William’s wedding in a white tank dress from Temperley London. She stuck with the traditional all-white theme in 2012 and 2014 in looks from Alexander McQueen and Zimmerman, respectively.
2. Bright Colors.
In 2015, Kate embraced color at Centre Court in a red L.K. Bennett midi dress with short sleeves. She opted for a similarly vibrant canary yellow dress in 2018 courtesy of Dolce & Gabbana.
3. Jewel Tones.
The Princess of Wales again tapped Dolce & Gabbana when she rocked an emerald green midi dress at Wimbledon in 2021.
Three years later, she donned a jewel-toned purple Safiyaa dress for her triumphant return to Centre Court amid her cancer journey. The royal, who received a standing ovation upon arrival, was also joined in the stands by her daughter, Princess Charlotte.
4. Polka Dots.
Kate rarely wears patterned dresses to Wimbledon, with one notable exception: polka dots. The princess has embraced the classic design motif on several occasions, including in 2017 and again in 2022.
5. Pastels.
Kate presented the Wimbledon trophies for the very first time in 2019 in a baby blue dress by Emilia Wickstead. Four years later, she wore a pastel green Self-Portrait dress to the ladies’ singles final. The latter look featured a bouclé peplum bodice and a matching pleated skirt.
6. Royal Blue.
In 2025, Kate stepped out in a royal blue midi dress by Roksanda. The following year, she wore a suit to Wimbledon for the very first time in the exact same color. The two-piece set was made by New York City-based designer Gabriela Hearst.
