Meghan Markle has spoken out about the dying of a long-time buddy and the legacy he leaves in the back of in a poignant open letter.
In a statement posted on Wednesday, the Duchess of Sussex informed how her friend and animal behaviourist Oli Juste died all at once at the age of forty six in January.
Markle, 40, and Juste have been long-time pals and labored together at the London-based animal welfare charity Mayhew till the Duchess’ tenure as its Royal shopper ended this year.
The welfare advocate introduced her to the charity while she was once searching for volunteer work 4 years ago.
“We shared, amongst many things, a dedication to animal welfare, and a deep love of rescue dogs,” Markle said in the letter shared on Mayhew’s website.
“In fact, it was once Oli and his fiancé Rob who helped care for my rescue dog, Guy, when I had simply moved to the UK and he used to be recovering from a debilitating accident. They cherished him as although he was their own.
“[Oli’s death] has left me, and so many others, heartbroken and reflective—knowing that the legacy he leaves for our furry buddies is superbly simple: just love them.’
Markle announced the charity will create an 'Oli Juste wing', in honour of her late-friend, to shelter rescue animals who fighting to get re-homed.
“Because a great deal like Oli, they will in no way be forgotten, and they will continually be loved,” she said.
Markle stated she will continue to guide the animal welfare organisation.
“Though my time as patron of Mayhew has come to a close, my unwavering help has not.
“I motivate each of you to help in something way you are able. The emotional support of a rescue animal is unparalleled—as you’ll quickly realize: it is no longer you who saves them, it is they who store you.”
Markle commenced her patronage with Mayhew in 2019 earlier than the organization introduced her departure earlier this year.
Mayhew describes itself as an animal welfare charity working to improve life for cats, puppies and the people in the community.
