Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been advised to sue TMZ for publishing paparazzi pictures of a dinner with Princess Eugenie.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were photographed with Harry's cousin and her husband Jack Brooksbank over the weekend at a restaurant in Santa Barbara.
The pictures had been launched by TMZ on Tuesday and show the two couples arriving and sitting around a table in what appears to be an outdoor dining vicinity surrounded by see-through plastic screens.
Mark Stephens, a media regulation specialist at U.K. association Howard Kennedy, advised Newsweek: "They can sue. There used to be a case where Paul Weller sued. He was once sitting backyard a restaurant in Santa Monica with his teens and he sued for privateness in the U.K.
"They'll sue whoever posted them in the U.K., it really is for sure. I don't know whether they can get TMZ here, but it will be really worth a go."
In 2012, singer-songwriter Weller sued beneath British privacy laws even although the pictures had been taken in California earlier than being published on the Daily Mail's website. He gained a £10,000 ($13,600) payout from Mail publisher Associated Newspapers at the High Court in London.
However, another media specialist counseled Meghan and Harry would possibly combat to win a lawsuit. Professor Tim Luckhurst, most important of South College at Durham University, instructed Newsweek: "In the circumstances, I do not think they ought to have any reasonable expectation of privacy.
"If they claim a reasonable expectation of privacy and the shelters or screens around them are transparent, that would strike me as a slightly unusual claim. While they can also find this intrusive, I suppose it would be not likely the claim would succeed."
